Charlotte Place is a landmark high rise office building in the centre of Southampton. This was refurbished in 2021 to create flexible working places in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The works involved a new reception, creation of shared co-working areas, remodelling of the atrium and new meeting spaces.

ION undertook the design of the new mechanical electrical services, including new lighting and air conditioning, plus the provision of electric vehicle charging points in the car park.

Highways England took possession of the Ground and first floors of this existing office facility and carried out a complete refurbishment and re-styling of the spaces to provide new meeting rooms and open plan office spaces.

ION Consulting provided the technical input to the project from the initial feasibility studies, through to the full building services design, overseeing the installation and managing the testing and commissioning phases.

In addition to high efficiency LED lighting and a generous distribution of power outlets for the office users, a sophisticated communication system was incorporated into the project.

Working closely with the client and delivery team, the project was successfully delivered on time and to the exacting finish expected by Highways England, giving them a high-quality office space and flexible meeting facilities for staff and teams.

ION were part of a multi discipline design team designing and successfully delivering this iconic high profile office building located in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

The project involved the fit out of 7500sqft of office workspace spread over five floors, complete with new hot desk areas, meeting rooms, the incorporation of a new IT suite and a fully operational kitchen and top level restaurant. The M&E works involved a fully BMS controlled air conditioning system, a full ventilation system, all electrical services including an upgrade of incoming supplies and automatic energy efficient lighting system throughout.
