Solent University Marine Simulators
The new Marine Simulator training facility provides a real-life experience to the operators including a fully operational mission bridge simulator, two 360-degree bridge simulators, three 270 degree bridge simulators, a crane simulator, an HV training room, three engine room simulators, an engine control room, 36 desk top simulations, a liquid cargo simulation, debrief rooms and a welcome area.
The works included the soft-strip and demolition of all existing mechanical & electrical services, suspended ceilings, raised access floors, finishes / furnishings, and asbestos containing materials, to facilitate the refurbishment of the learning resource centre within the Andrews Building, Solent University.
The new facility included a network of VRF systems serving all areas for comfort cooling, and the provision of heat rejection for the data centre and server room. A complex system of containment, power and data distribution was required to serve the simulator suites, co-ordinated within the constraints of the existing building structures.
Eastleigh College – Arts and Media Centre
New multi-purpose teaching facility for the College providing art, graphics, media, and health and beauty teaching spaces.
This new 3 storey facility provides a striking entrance building to the college campus and encompasses a central atrium and circulation area allowing students to ‘break out’ of teaching areas at all level.
The new building is highly thermally insulated, reducing its energy consumption and incorporates rainwater harvesting and roof mounted solar PV arrays.
St Marks School
St Marks through school was an existing Edwardian brick built establishment that was demolished and replaced with a new build purpose built state of the art teaching facility.
ION Consulting provided the technical input to the project from the initial feasibility studies, through to the full building services design, overseeing the installation and managing the testing and commissioning phases.
Working closely with the client, Southampton City Council, the main contractor and the specialist M&E contractor, the project is targeted to be one of the best educational facilities in the Southern region.
