Magma Global – Specialist Cable Manufacturers
ION were responsible for the complete design and site management of the M&E services for this highly specialised production facility for undersea cable manufacture near Portsmouth, Hampshire.
The ‘large span’ production hall contains complex extrusion and cable winding equipment requiring heavy power services, good levels of lighting and close environmental control.
Extensive site infrastructure works, new services and complex services diversions were needed to prepare the site for re-development.
Coopervision – Contact Lens Manufacturing Facility
ION provided the complete mechanical and electrical design for this new high-capacity contact lens manufacturing facility in Southampton.
The project involved re-purposing an existing warehouse into a dedicated and hygienically clean contact lens production facility making 920,000 lens per day. The building contained substantial clean room facilities which were fully air conditioned. Services included high and low voltage power distribution, generators, compressed air, DI water and industrial gases.
ION developed the original client’s requirements and carefully tailored them with the various specialist production machine requirements to provide the client with this highly successful manufacturing plant.
Included in the M&E design were a network of specialist compressed air services, chilled water for process cooling and ventilation operated under a dedicated pressure control regime.
ION were involved from the initial concept idea through design, installation and the commissioning phases of the project. Working closely with the client and other members of the design team, the project was successfully completed and handed over ahead of programme.
Guildford Abattoir and Cutting Rooms – Chitty Foods
New build construction of a cattle abattoir and beef joint cutting room, plus associated cold store rooms and offices.
The project was commissioned following a fire in the existing premises and involved maintaining the existing processes while the new construction occurred. The services installations included process cooling and ventilation, electrical distribution and lighting. All services needed to be corrosion-resistant, many of which required the use of stainless steel conduits and pipework.
